Defective Defector
So - the Iranian defector the CIA pulled in about a year ago has decided to un-defect. Normally, this would seem to be impossible, as the most likely outcome is jail time, but its all a little more complicated that that.
He is a nuclear scientist, who was working with the CIA and then decided to come stateside. After a year of living in Arizona, and constantly changing his story, he is defecting back to Iran. Iran has always tried to claim that he was kidnapped, something he is now claiming as well. This way, when he goes home, he will be lauded as a hero. Though you can be damn sure he will be quietly put in some dark forgotten corner of the nuclear program were he can do no harm and sell no secrets.
The re-defecting and second thoughts it turns out are not unusual:"This happens all the time," said Bob Baer, a former CIA officer who worked in the Middle East. "Defectors come up with a good idea to make a lot of money, and then once the boredom sets in and the loneliness, they want to get back in touch with the family. They realize it was a huge mistake."
He is now on his way back to Iran. All I can say is, this guy is obviously a total piece of shit.
