James Cameron Mining Asteroids
The movie director has joined Google executives Larry Page and Eric Schmidt.... and ROSS PEROT!!! in backing Planetary Resources: a company which plans to add "trillions" to the global GDP by mining off-planet resources (i.e. asteroids).
Two things here:
1) How come most of the news stories don't mention Ross Perot? That's hilarious.
2) This is freaking awesome.
For a long time a lot of people (like my brother) have advocated that we can make money mining asteroids. However, what it will take for the concept to gain wide acceptance is for someone to start doing it, and come home with a boatload (or, capsule-load as it were) of antimony, indium, & gold... and start the next gold rush.
