The National Ignition Facility is the current latest and greatest attempt to achieve fusion. Essentially a whole ton of lasers designed to hit a little grain of hydrogen all at once, it is nearing completion after 15 years and $3.5 billion.

This is actually one of the few areas where I think govt. research is needed, and spending is a good thing. The technology is pretty incredible, and while the chance of actually achieving the objective is probably 50/50 at best, I hope that they actually make this one happen: it would be a monumental achievement for mankind.

There are a lot of shitty drivers out there. Actually, most people are shitty drivers. They don't really know anything about cars, about driving, about limits of adhesion, how to react when things go badly, or what snow does to your ability to drive. Turns out most people don't think looking green is worth the sacrifice of owning a shitty, expensive car. Only 1/3rd of hybrid owners buy another one. Please, no more, I can't take it anymore Good news for the electric revolution? Not really. As I have been saying for years - the Prius has absolutely no logical economic value. There are other cars which are cheaper, better, and with similar fuel economy, or at least with good enough fuel economy that the price premium for the prius makes no damn sense. And the numbers show that: hybrid loyalty has fluctuated very little over the last 6 years, while gas prices have moved all over the place. In other words - buying a hybrid has nothing to do with logic. Shocking.
