It's A HYBRID!

What is a hybrid? It means it uses propulsion from more than one source. It does not mean "gasoline/electric." It just means that you use more than one power source.

Which is why my Tahoe is a hybrid, because it has one of these:

Interestingly, Chrysler is actually working on a "new" type of hybrid.

Well - new to you anyway, though might have heard one before. Hydraulic hybrids. Basically, what this means is that when you brake, instead of friction (heat) dissipating speed or (if you have a electric/gasoline hybrid) some of the braking power going into spinning a generator (running the electric motor in reverse), the power from braking goes into hydraulic power - basically a pressurized reservoir which can then be tapped when you inevitably accelerate again. The issue is that these systems are generally heavy and er... loud, though much cheaper than electric hybrids (and more efficient with braking). Which is why so far, they can only be found on garbage trucks - and not many of them either.

However, Chrysler (which somehow has a budget for this, while its cars such as the much hyped 200 languish) is trying to make this quiet and light. I think it is a pretty cool system, especially for any city drivers or stop and go commuters.
