China - The Games
I did not get to see the opening ceremonies, I hope to at some point. However, there is quite a stir over China's push for perfection.
The first is the 55 second segment of the footprints on the sky. Now, it was done for the opening ceremony, but the footage shown to the world was in fact a digital fake, done well before the games and made to look like it was shot from a helicopter.
The second is that the girl who sang some song for the ceremony was not actually the girl singing. There was a 7yr old who actually sang it, was recorded, but was deemed not cute enough, so they put a different girl up on stage to lip sync.
Neither are egregious offenses, but interesting the extent to which a) China is going to make everything perfect and b) China cannot ultimately control the media and reporting on the event, and is actually being quite open about certain manipulation.
