Nook for $99

Right now, buy.com has refurbished 1st gen Nooks sold by Barnes and Noble for $99. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. While not the fancy tablet of the new Nook, and according to reviews, not quite as good as the Kindle, but you seem to get a lot for your money here if you are looking for an e-reader and quasi-tablet.

As a final note, the Nook supports EPUB, which is the digital format that most libraries use - so you might be able to get more free books out of one of these than a Kindle, though I think the Kindle still has the larger library of books you can pay for.

Doomsday Bunkers for What? "Preppers" Are Idiots

Recently I wrote about the 10 best doomsday survival shelters in the world . These make sense - they are for continuity of government, they are so mankind will survive, they are all about long-term planning or strategic defense. But, I just came across a brand new show on Discovery - "Doomsday Bunkers" - and it's stupid. Interesting, but stupid. It turns out that there is a whole community of people out there who believe Y2K is still coming think Fallout 3, the Book of Eli, or Mad Max is just around the corner. And so they are "prepping" - getting ready for the zombie apocalypse.
